Borgo Berga and the Palladian Arco delle Scalette of Monte Berico.
Borgo Berga is an area located in the historical center of Vicenza that has undergone many changes.
The district was formed in the area between the city walls in the early medieval and Venetian period and has developed in recent centuries along the first stretch of the Riviera Berica and on the adjacent slopes of Monte Berico.
A few meters from this area you can admire the Renaissance masterpieces of Andrea Palladio such as Villa La Rotonda and the Arco delle Scalette of Monte Berico.
After the Renaissance there was a huge salt warehouse in Borgo Berga, later with the fall of the Venetian Republic and the arrival of Napoleon the buildings were used for military purposes and the church of Ognissanti was even demolished. Then came the Fascist period, during which the district underwent a great reorganization.
Today the district has undergone major urban planning operations resulting from the demolition of Cotorossi, the factory that occupies a large peninsula between the rivers Retrone and Bacchiglione.
Borgo Berga is a modern district mostly made of concrete construction, being the subject of much criticism, both in terms of urban planning and functionality, as well as in terms of the landscape and environment.
And you, especially if you live in Vicenza, what do you think about Borgo Berga ?
