Among the ancient and powerful Maritime Republics, Amalfi was the first to impose itself, expanding trade in the East and becoming a pillar of cartography and exploration.
But Venice could not be outdone: now free from Byzantine rule and under the leadership of the Doge, began the expansion in the eastern Mediterranean. The two Republics that had clashed several times had a very different longevity. Amalfi, supplanted by the hegemony of other powers, began its decline in 1100, while Venice prospered until 1800.
Today the two cities, both centers of art and history, give us enchanting views thanks to the views of the sea.
Swaying through the alleys and islands of the Capital, rest your foot in the elegant Capri as you step off your boat. An idle journey through the solemn, still air of an ancient cathedral and a dip in the transparent blue to a grotto.
A taste of lemon sorbet and a wonderful view of the serene sunset that crowns the day.
